can you discern what romney was talking about when he said biden contradicted that sworn testimony? >> well, i would say number one that is probably a reference to eric nordstrom, who was the regional security officer, that means he works for the state department. the diplomatic security side of that. and he -- in sworn testimony he did say that he had asked for more security assistance, more personnel, and that he was refuse refused. you have to get into the subchapters on this. there were requests he made that were verbal. there were requests that were not necessarily formal bureaucratic stamped type of things. so i think we have to really get down into the weeds to say was it a formal request that was turned down, was it a less formal, verbal one et cetera. on the other side, that we that you were talking about, what he's saying is, look, this is handled, the personnel issues are handled by the state department. that type of detail doesn't come to us here at the white house. at least that's what the white house is saying. >> two things going on there. let me throw another layer o

when you look at what's happening in the battleground states, the romney/ryan ticket, which is pretty far extreme on a number of these issues, women's reproductive health, access to contraception, discrimination on things like definitions of rape, women really are responding to that. and it's a big reason why the obama/biden ticket is so far ahead in so many battleground states with women. and i thought that last night's debate, you know, you had a clip -- it's kind of the untalked about thing this morning -- raised a bunch of issues for the campaigns to be talking about over the next couple of weeks. yes, the economy is important. when women have to worry about their health care and the economy, that's just an extra burden. and i think it came out well last night. >> i think people were paying particularly close attention, erick because of mitt romney's comments to the des moines register, and there are other reasons. it's a very timely issue, erick. even though it was about the economy, this was supposed to be about foreign policy, this abortion issue really hit the radar last night

mitt romney, if you listen carefully to what he said, he talks about legislation. well, that's very different as you and i know, brooke, from supporting nominees to the supreme court who would outlaw abortion, who would overturn roe v. wade. that's very different than supporting legislation that would try to do that in congress. and so i think that might be the distinction there that mitt romney is going for. as you mentioned, a few moments ago, he has evolved on this issue over the years and romney has not shied away from that. he admitted back in 2004 that when he was governor of massachusetts that he had had a conversion on this issue. it was when he was basically told about what happened to embryos during stem cell research, that is when he says he had an epiphany on the issue of life and from then on forward he has been pretty staunchly anti-abortion. >> so, let me jump in, because you any, you say distinction, we could call it knnuance, that th nuance on this abortion issue is cropping up as the president and his supporters are accusing romney of flip-floppin
